Counseling - Counselors
Bernice
Rowe (A-G) | Lorri Red-Horse (H-O) | Joanne McHugh (P-Z)
Lisa Benavides (Special Services) |Elise Haugh (S.T.) | This is my 42nd year in education
and my motto must be, "Still Crazy ('bout kids) After All
These Years!" I earned my Bachelor's and Master's Degrees
in English from Holy Names University, my teaching credential at
the same time, then my counseling and admin credentials at CSUS
later. I taught English and ESL at Roseville High, then everything
including business and "home ec" at Adelante for 10 years.
I think when you find a "job" that makes you laugh all
the way to work in the morning, you'd best keep coming! Your children
are amazing and wonderful and I believe I have a vocation to help
them be "all that they can be". Thank you for the years
of joy you have given me. I am blessed.
Lorri Red-Horse is currently enjoying her 25th year as an educator and has been at Oakmont since 1999. Previously, she was a teacher and counselor at East Nicolaus High School for 13 years, and taught Home Economics at Nickerson High School in Kansas for 2 years, before relocating to California. Lorri was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas and received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics, as well as her teaching credential in 1984 from Emporia State University, Emporia, KS. Lorri earned her Master of Science in Educational Counseling in 1990 from National University, Sacramento.
Lorri resides in Lincoln with her husband Steve. Lorri has four children…Maeghan and Kyle currently attend college, Christian is a junior and Bayleigh is in 8th grade. In her spare time, Lorri enjoys camping, swimming, attending her children's sporting activities, and spending time with her family and friends. She is an avid Forty Niner, Giants, and Kansas City Chief fan. During “March Madness” she can be seen and heard cheering on her favorite team, Kansas Jayhawks. “Rock Chalk Jayhawks!!” Joanne McHugh became an Oakmont guidance counselor in 1997. She has previously served as an elementary guidance counselor and teacher in Rhode Island, Texas, Michigan, and Ontario, Canada. Joanne received her Bachelor of Arts degree from San Diego State University, and her Master of Arts degree in Guidance and Counseling at the University of Ottawa in Ontario, Canada.
Ms. McHugh resides in Roseville. Her two grown sons include Jesse, a commercial pilot also serving in the USAF Reserves, while Ryan is serving as a pediatrician in the USAF. She is also the proud grandmother of Julia. Joanne loves the beach, outdoor activities, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. After moving around the US and Canada much of her adult life, Ms. McHugh greatly appreciates the Viking tradition, students, and professional staff at Oakmont. Her ultimate goal is to assist her students with academic, college, career, and personal guidance, in an effort to motivate them to grow toward their full potential. I have been working in the field of special education for 27 years. I earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of California at Davis. For the past 26 years I have worked solely as a school psychologist beginning with OHS, RHS, Adelante and Success. While Oakmont has always been a home base, as the district grew I also worked at GBHS, WHS, and Challenge, and have enjoyed the opportunity to become familiar with the staff, students, and parents at each unique campus. As the OHS Special Services Coordinator I enjoy working more closely with student issues and addressing needs when they occur. I also provide coordinator services to the district adult transition program and evaluation services as a school psychologist for 10% of my time.
I have been working in
the field of special education for over 30 years. I earned my Bachelor’s
and Master’s degrees from University of the Pacific, and
completed additional coursework at CSU, Hayward, and CSU, Sacramento.
I hold several credentials, and began my career as a Speech/Language
Pathologist. I have also taught in the Resource Specialist Program,
Special Day Class, and have worked in the hospital and home/health
setting. I have been a member of the Oakmont staff since 1988,
and my three adult children are Oakmont graduates.
